Below mentioned are some points which should be kept in mind to score well in your Writing task:
- Make sure that you don’t write less than the required words or else your band score will be reduced. Examiner will be looking for quality and not quantity and so don’t write too much without any reason.
- Before writing take some time and understand the question and plan your answer.
- Pay more attention on task 2 for more marks.
- Try and write clearly. If the examiner isn’t able to read the answer then it’s of no use.
- Use paragraphs while writing so that the examiner can read it and it also gives a neat impression.
- Use variety of sentence structures for which the examiner will be looking for.
- Read the question properly and write upto the mark. Respond to the question asked.
- There is no need for a title in IELTS writing task and do not rewrite the question.
- Make sure that you write for each task in the allotted area since the answer sheet has separate areas designated for each task.
- If you are suing indentations for the first line of each paragraph or say a blank line in the paragraphs, keep both as separate ones and don’t mix both the methods.
- Use cursive writing as writing pattern. This will make your writing more mature and it will look good when the reader is able to read your writing in the first impression.
- Do not use double spacing between each line of writing.
- Write in between 10 to 12 words in one line. This will prevent you writing words with gaps and also too long which will make it simpler for you to quickly estimate how many words you have written in the test.
- If in case, you write something which is wrong then simply put a line on it i.e. error. By doing this, the examiner will understand it while correction.
- Use quotation marks for quotes and titles.
- Avoid using contractions and exclamation marks in your formal writing.
- You may use brackets while you are quoting some statistics in Writing Task 1
Be confident in what you are answering and you will come out with flying colors. Good luck for exam.
